Collaborations

We are proud to work in collaboration with the following organizations to support K-16 educators and educational leaders.

Empatico

Empatico provides students with the opportunity to learn about different perspectives and practice interpersonal skills that are crucial for building cross-cultural relationships later in life. Without a doubt, today’s youth will interact with many different types of people when they’re older. Interacting, cooperating, and building relationships with people from different backgrounds and cultures will contribute to students’ success and to the success of our society as a whole.

Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects (ECCLPs)

UCI Science Project is proudly supporting the efforts of ECCLPS to educate 500,000 graduating high school students per year in California to become literate in environmental and climate change issues and solutions. This collaboration between the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems will support the urgent need to advance PK-12 environmental and climate change literacy efforts.

Amigos de Bolsa Chica

UCI Science Project is proud to collaborate with Amigos de Bolsa Chica to create and offer environmental educational and stewardship programs. The mission of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica is to advocate for the preservation, restoration, and maintenance of the Bolsa Chica, to encourage the public acquisition of all the wetlands and sufficient surrounding open space to create a viable ecosystem, and to provide education about the importance of wetlands.

Aquarium of the Pacific

The Aquarium of the Pacific’s mission is to instill a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems. Our vision is to create an aquarium dedicated to conserving and building Natural Capital (Nature and Nature’s services) by building Social Capital (the interactions between and among peoples). The Aquarium of the Pacific is a community gathering place where diverse cultures and the arts are celebrated and a place where important topics facing our planet and our ocean are explored by scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders in the search for sustainable solutions. We proudly partner with the UCI Science Project to host climate change teacher programs. The programs, supported through the Aquarium’s climate resilience program, gives teachers to connect Next Generation Science Standards to the most current science and social science of climate change.

California Subject Matter Projects (CSMP)

Our network offers teachers a singular opportunity to partner with scholars in education and academic disciplines. As a result, our professional learning programs are informed by the latest disciplinary and educational research. We focus our work on improving educational equity for students and teachers in the greatest need. And we strategically recruit, apprentice, and support teacher leaders through our ongoing partnerships with local schools and districts.

Crystal Cove Conservancy

The Conservancy’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education programs immerse students and the public in environmental research at Crystal Cove State Park. By taking part in conservation research projects and helping to further our understanding of how Crystal Cove is changing over time, participants develop the science skills they’ll need to become our community’s next generation of environmental leaders, ensuring that Crystal Cove, and all places like it, will be protected for years to come.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Crystal Cove to provide unique  educational programming in culturally relevant and responsive ways for Orange County students!

SubjectToClimate

SubjectToClimate (StC) is a nonprofit online connector for K-12 teachers of all subjects to find credible, unbiased, and engaging materials on climate change at no cost. Their goal is to make climate change teaching and learning accessible to all. We are excited to collaborate with StC to offer free and accessible climate change teaching resources for K-12 educators!

Ten Strands

UCI Science Project is proud to collaborate with Ten Strands on various Environmental Literacy efforts for California schools. The mission of Ten Strands is, “to strengthen the partnerships and strategies that will bring environmental literacy to all of California’s K–12 students. Ten Strands believes that California has the capacity to ensure that every student develops the knowledge, skills, and ability to make informed decisions about environmental issues facing our communities and our world.”

The Ocean Agency

UCI Science Project is proud to collaborate with The Ocean Agency to support the creation of teaching materials and professional learning opportunities for teachers grounded on Ocean Literacy Principles. The Ocean Agency uses a combination of, “creativity, technology and powerful partnerships to raise the awareness and support necessary to help fast-track ocean conservation action.”

Check out their amazing documentary, “Chasing Coral” to better understand their work and vision to fight climate change.

UCI CalTeach Math & Science Program

UCI CalTeach is a program for undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors interested in exploring a career in education. Through our coursework, students learn teaching skills and practice these methods in local K-12 classrooms. CalTeach offers a unique opportunity for students to complete both a bachelor’s degree and a California teaching credential in just four years! UCI CalTeach is jointly sponsored by the Schools of Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Education.

UCI Teacher Academy

The UCI Teacher Academy provides a home for teachers and school leaders to develop and enhance their professional practice by offering programs in four areas: teacher preparation, professional development, teacher leadership, and administrator leadership.

Through this multi-faceted approach, the Teacher Academy supports all teachers throughout the entire educator lifecycle – from aspiring teacher to senior administrators.

Henry Samueli School of Engineering

We are proud partners with the UCI Samueli School of Engineering and their Office of Access and Inclusion and OC STEM Initiative to support STEM efforts in the K-16. The Office of Access and Inclusion supports the recruitment, retention, and graduation of undergraduate and graduate students from historically excluded populations who are currently underrepresented in engineering and information and computer sciences. OC STEM strengthens the workforce pipeline throughout Orange County by promoting competencies in STEM from cradle to career through a collaborative network of public and private partnerships.

Together with OAI and OCSTEM, we are proud to develop and facilitate K-16 programs centered on equity, antiracist teaching practices, with a culturally relevant and responsive lens to effectively support STEM efforts at high needs schools.

NatureBridge Golden Gate

UCI Science Project is proud to partner with NatureBridge Golden Gate to create immersive experiences for teachers, students, and schools centered on education for climate action. Working together with The Biomimicry Institute to build up The Climate Lab, we are thrilled to support outdoor education centered on civic community engagement for all participants. NatureBridge’s philosophy is that, “When young people discover the wonder and science of the natural world, they’re prepared for a lifetime of exploration and stewardship of the environment—that starts now. We strive to develop a generation of environmental stewards who have the knowledge, attitudes and skills to collaborate to protect and advocate for the natural world.”

SEI – Energize Schools

Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is an environmental nonprofit that builds leaders to drive sustainability solutions. SEI’s Energize Schools program engages, inspires, and empowers K-12 students to become environmental leaders, green their campus and community, and develop green career skills through hands-on, experiential learning. We provide teachers with project-based curriculum, teacher training, and direct instructional support to build energy and sustainability leaders. Energize Schools also hosts Green Careers Webinars, Energy Conservation Competitions, and Earth Day Campaign Contests.
